Hydraulic/Gas Shock Replacement

Resources for client: Video installation guide.

  1. First, you will need to remove the upper rear panel. This will involve removing the top four bolts with a small allen wrench and the two screws with a Phillips head screwdriver. (section 0:43-1:37 in the video guide).
  2. Once you have the rear panel off, you can access the shocks.
  3. Start with your helping hand standing in front of the dome holding the dome lid up. Be sure to communicate with them that it is essential to ensure they continue to hold the dome lid open during this process. When it gets time to remove the gas shocks, the helping hand will bear all the weight of the dome lid! They must understand this; if they were to drop the dome lid, it could cause damage or, even worse, hurt the helper or yourself!
  4. Once your helping hand securely holds the lid open, you will remove the locking pins. There are two locking pins per shock, one on the top ball and the other on the bottom ball. Needle nose pliers make this step much easier but you can also access them with your fingers. Just be sure to take your time when removing them because if the slip and hit the ground they’re like little springs and it’s very easy to loose them. (section 2:24-2:45  in the video guide).
  5. While your helper holds the lid open, you will now remove the shock. This can be done by hand, but we find it easier if you take your screwdriver to pop them out of their socket. You will do this to each side(section 2:46-3:10 in the video guide).
  6. Now that both shocks have been removed, replace them with the new ones. Please remove the locking pins in the new set of shocks. Otherwise, they will not slip onto the ball  (installing the new shocks is found at 8:50-9:30 in the video guide).
  7. At this point, both shocks should be replaced and installed correctly. Please remember to add the locking pins to the top and bottom of both shocks. If this step is skipped, it could cause the shock to pop off.
  8. Reattach the upper rear panel.
